KAUAI, Hawaii, (Reuters) -- U.S. Open champion Jim Furyk cruised to a massive eight-shot win in the PGA Grand Slam of Golf at Poipu Bay, Hawaii.
Furyk shot a four-under-par 68 in the second round to finish with a nine-under 135 in the 36-hole competition for this season's four major winners.
U.S. Masters champion Mike Weir of Canada was second on 143 following a closing 71 and U.S. PGA champion Shaun Micheel (70) was third on 145.
British Open winner Ben Curtis closed with 73 for 146.
For the first time since 1992, all four players were making their Grand Slam of Golf debuts.
"We were all fooled out there quite a bit," Furyk told reporters after claiming his fourth career victory in Hawaii. "In the long run, I was the fortunate one. I made the most putts."
Furyk pocketed $400,000 for his win. Left-hander Weir took home $250,000, Micheel $200,000 and Curtis $150,000.
The U.S. Open champion began the day with a five-shot lead and was never troubled, especially after holing a 50-foot chip for par at the ninth hole and draining a 20-foot birdie putt at the 10th.
Furyk, whose previous three wins in Hawaii came at the 1995 Kapalua International, the 1996 Sony Open and the 2001 Mercedes Championships, said: "They need to bring more events to these islands."
