Tom Pappas celebrates winning world championship gold this year

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana -- Decathlon world champion Tom Pappas and women's distance runner Deena Drossin Kastor have been named winners of the 2003 Jesse Owens Awards.
Pappas won both the world indoor and outdoor championship titles.
Drossin Kastor broke the U.S. record for the marathon with a time of 2 hours, 21 minutes, 16 seconds to finish third in the 2003 London Marathon. She also won a silver medal in the 8,000m at the world cross country championships.
The awards, named after the late 1936 Olympic great, are presented annually to the outstanding U.S. male and female track and field athletes.
They will be presented to Pappas and Drossin Kastor during an awards dinner at the USATF annual meeting in Greensboro, North Carolina, on December 5.
