Harrison regains WBO feather title
GLASGOW, Scotland -- Scott Harrison knocked down Manuel Medina four times and stopped the Mexican in the 11th round to regain the WBO featherweight title at the Braehead Arena Glasgow.
Harrison, who had lost the title to Medina in a split decision at the same venue in July, became the first Scottish fighter ever to regain a world championship.
Harrison, who improved to 20-2-1, knocked Medina down with a flurry of punches in the opening round and maintained control of the fight.
With Medina clearly tiring, Harrison put him down twice in the 10th round with right hands. The Mexican just managed to hold on until the bell.
Harrison pressed the advantage in the 11th, flooring Medina with a short, chopping right hand. Medina struggled to his feet, but the referee stopped the contest after 31 seconds of the round.
"It's unbelievable," the 26-year-old Harrison said. "The atmosphere was electric. Losing the title was devastating. Now I'm back. He was a warrior. I'm surprised he kept getting back up."
Medina, 32, is a five-time world champion. His record fell to 62-14 as he was stopped for only the third time in his 18-year career.
