Amoroso is warned of severe action
BERLIN, Germany (Reuters) -- Borussia Dortmund striker Marcio Amoroso is in big trouble for publicly criticising team doctors and refusing to return from Brazil for treatment, the club said.
The 29-year-old has been out of action since September after tearing a right knee ligament.
Amoroso told Bild newspaper that he did not want to waste any more time in Dortmund and hoped to fly to the United States for medical care.
"I've already wasted too much time with the wrong diagnosis and I'm waiting for permission to go to a specialist in the United States," he said.
"I'm not going to let myself be destroyed in Dortmund like what has happened to Evanilson and Christoph Metzelder," Amoroso added, referring to two other injured Dortmund players.
"They should think seriously about why they have 13 injured players."
In a statement, Dortmund said Amoroso was violating his contract and ordered him to return to Germany.
Commercial manager Michael Meier told Germany's SID news agency that the player faced 'severe consequences' over his reported remarks, adding: "Amoroso should take a good look at the contract he signed that runs through 2005."
Coach Matthias Sammer also warned Amoroso that: "An employee who thinks he can publicly challenge the medical department of his club will face consequences."
Dortmund will decide what treatment Amoroso should receive after an examination by team doctor Markus Braun.
Meier said Dortmund had also informed FIFA of the situation. "They react quite strongly in cases of contract violation," he said.
