Beckham injury worries for England
MADRID, Spain -- England could be without captain David Beckham for the decisive Euro 2004 qualifier against Turkey next month. He injured an ankle in Real Madrid's 2-0 defeat by Valencia on Saturday and does not know if he will be fit in time for the game in Istanbul. Beckham played the full 90 minutes on Saturday but was not fit enough to take part in training on Sunday. "It's hard to tell. It's the first day after the game and it's hurting a lot at the moment," said Beckham. Club doctors said that the midfielder was suffering from an acute inflammation of the sole of his right foot and would require physiotherapy and rest for an unspecified period. "I really don't know," Beckham told reporters when asked if he would be fit for England's Group Seven clash on October 11. "I'm not sure if I'll be fit for Wednesday (when Real travel to Porto for a Champions League match). It will be up to the doctors, the physios and me to decide. "There are two weeks to go before the Turkey game and there are a lot of big games to come before then. I'll concentrate on them first before worrying about Turkey," he added.
