Swiss cool on Davis tie Down Under
MELBOURNE, Australia -- Swiss Davis Cup captain Marc Rosset fears Australia's decision to play this weekend's Davis Cup semifinal outdoors could lead to player injuries. The three-day match will take place in cold and windy conditions even though Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena has a retractable roof. "I just hope that nobody gets injured because the weather conditions are very cold," said Rosset. "There's a good chance you can sprint or run to the ball and get injured just by the weather conditions. I think it would have been easier for everyone, even for the Australian team, to play indoors." A Tennis Australia spokesman, John Lindsay, said the roof would only be closed in the event of heavy rain. The tie will include a re-match of this year's Wimbledon final, where Switzerland's Roger Federer beat Mark Philippoussis 7-6 6-2 7-6 to win his maiden Grand Slam. "It's going to be huge," said Australian Philippoussis. "This is going to be a totally different match. I think it's something we're both looking forward to." Former world number one Lleyton Hewitt is also fit for the home side after recovering from the hip injury that slowed him down in a quarterfinal defeat to Juan Carlos Ferrero at the U.S. Open earlier this month.
