Vaulter rapped for baring buttocks
BERLIN, Germany -- German pole vaulter Tim Lobinger faces sanctions for baring his buttocks after winning at the world athletics finals in Monaco.
"It was unsportsmanlike behavior which cannot be tolerated," said German Athletics Federation president Clemens Prokop.
The crowd included members of Monaco's royal family. The IAAF, athletics' governing body, said the athlete could be fined $5,000 but no sanction had been decided yet.
"His behavior will have consequences, which will depend on which sanctions are taken by the IAAF and the organizers of the finals," added Prokop.
Lobinger said he had done nothing wrong as he celebrated victory on Saturday.
"I felt it was funny," he told reporters in Monaco. "It's not something you plan in advance. It just happens. I knew I had underwear on," he added.
