LONDON, England -- Hollywood actor Kenneth Branagh has secretly married girlfriend Lindsay Brunnock, it was revealed Tuesday.

Branagh's publicist said the newlyweds had been married at a "small, private" ceremony at the weekend, the Press Association reports.

Branagh has not released any further details about the wedding, although it is believed he and his bride are currently on their honeymoon at an undisclosed location.

Irish born Branagh, 42, met art director Brunnock on the set of Channel 4 drama "Shackleton" two years ago.

The star of films "Much Ado About Nothing" and "Frankenstein" has never spoken publicly about his private life and the couple's whirlwind romance.

It is the second time that the actor has tied the knot.

His first marriage to co-star of "Peter's Friends" -- actress Emma Thompson -- ended in 1996.

Branagh then went on to have a relationship with another leading lady and co-star, Helena Bonham Carter, which ended in 1999.

Branagh -- who became famous for his Shakespearian roles in "Othello" and "Hamlet" -- has recently enjoyed renewed success in the Hollywood blockbuster movie "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" as Gilderoy Lockhart ,as well as starring in the movie "Rabbit Proof Fence" released earlier this year.

The actor-turned director recently moved from London to New York with the play "The Play What I Wrote," a tribute to the British comedy duo Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise, which he directs.
