ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- Singer Bobby Brown is in good condition Tuesday at an Atlanta, Georgia, hospital after being taken from his jail cell by paramedics.

DeKalb County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Mikki Jones refused to disclose why Brown was rushed to the hospital around 3:30 a.m.

"We are not at liberty to discuss the medical information of any inmate," she said.

Grady Memorial Hospital officials confirmed Brown was in the hospital but also declined to disclose why he was brought there.

Brown was serving an eight-day sentence after he pleaded guilty to a 1996 drunken driving charge and a count of speeding.

Jones said Brown is scheduled to be released Wednesday; his already shortened sentence was reduced for good behavior and credit for time served.

A judge also has ordered Brown to serve 24 months' probation, during which he must perform 240 hours of community service in the Atlanta area. He also was ordered not to operate a motor vehicle for a year.

Police arrested Brown in November in Atlanta on drug and traffic charges and later discovered he was wanted on a 5-year-old warrant.

Brown first made his name with the 1980s group New Edition before embarking on a solo career that has often brought him more attention for run-ins with law enforcement than for his music. He is married to singer Whitney Houston.
