LONDON, England -- Norman Cook, known as DJ Fatboy Slim, is to split from his radio star wife Zoe Ball after three-and-a-half years of marriage.

The pair are to separate on amicable terms to give themselves "a bit of time and breathing space," Ball's agent said on Saturday.

Millionaire Cook and Ball will share the responsibility of looking after their two-year-old boy Woody.

Agent Vivienne Clore stressed the split did not mean a definite end to the marriage and the couple were just needing time apart.

Zoe, 32, was at the luxury family beach home in Brighton this morning but told awaiting press, via the intercom, that the pair would not be saying anything further.

Clore was quoted by the UK's Press Association as saying:"They have split for now. It is very amicable and they just want a bit of time to have a bit of breathing space.

"Woody is much loved by both of them and his welfare is paramount."

Asked what caused the marital breakdown, she said generally: "No one ever knows what causes these problems."

She added that ex-Radio 1 presenter Ball was likely to stay in the north London home she uses four days a week when she works for radio station XFM.

Cook, 39, will stay at the Brighton home, on the English southcoast, where he is working on a new album.

Ball and Cook married at the luxurious Babington House hotel in Somerset, in the West Country, in August 1999 and were seen by many as the perfect celebrity couple.

Ball rose to fame after landing a job as presenter of children's show Live & Kicking and then as co-presenter Radio 1's Breakfast Show, but later gave up the job.

Cook began in the 80s' band The Housemartins before making his name on the Dance scene.
