SYDNEY, Australia (Reuters) -- Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe and his wife are celebrating the birth of their first child, the actor's publicist said.
Crowe's wife Danielle Spencer gave birth to a 2.8-kg (6.2-pound) boy on Sunday night, publicist Wendy Day told the national news agency, Australian Associated Press on Monday.
"He's a healthy, bouncing baby boy looking forward to Christmas," Day said.
The child has been named Charles Spencer Crowe, she said.
Crowe and Spencer were married at his Australian cattle property in April. The former hard-drinking and brawling star has led a quieter life since his marriage and the announcement of Spencer's pregnancy.
New Zealand-born, Australian-raised Crowe won the 2001 best actor Oscar for "Gladiator" and was nominated for the same award the following year for "A Beautiful Mind."
Last week Crowe was nominated for a Golden Globe best actor award for his role in Australian director Peter Weir's seafaring epic "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World."
