Jolie/Thornton divorce finalLOS ANGELES (AP) -- The marriage of Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton is officially over. The "Tomb Raider" actress filed for divorce from the "Sling Blade" star last July, after only two years of marriage. Jolie cited irreconcilable differences for the breakup. The union between the 27-year-old actress and the 47-year-old actor was dissolved Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court. Their separation came four months after they adopted a baby boy, Maddox, from Cambodia. The pair's wild love life became media fodder after they married in May 2000. They bragged about their sex lives in interviews, and, at one time, wore vials of each other's blood around their necks. Both are Oscar winners; she won a best-supporting actress award in 2000 for "Girl, Interrupted," and Thornton won best screenplay honors in 1997 for "Sling Blade." It was Thornton's fifth marriage and her second. "The best we can say is it was amicable and they're glad it was completed expeditiously," said Jolie's lawyer, Laura Wasser. Thornton's representatives declined to comment. 'Rings' to take stageLONDON (AP) -- A London producer has announced plans for a lavish musical version of "The Lord of the Rings," the J.R.R. Tolkien fantasy that has become a cinematic hit. Producer Kevin Wallace said the production is budgeted at $13 million, topping the present champion, the $10.6 million production of "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang." Producers are aiming for a premiere early in 2005. Casting is scheduled for early 2004 for the show, which has been in development for 18 months, Wallace said Wednesday. Howard's daughter debutsLOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) -- Newcomer Bryce Dallas Howard, daughter of Oscar-winning director Ron Howard, has signed on to make her feature film debut with a starring role in director M. Night Shyamalan's "The Woods." Kirsten Dunst previously had the offer for the role and was in talks to star. However, the actress has now turned her attention to "Elizabethtown," a project written and to be directed by Cameron Crowe, which has yet to be set up. A deal for the twentysomething Howard to join the cast was reached last weekend, shortly after Shyamalan saw her perform in the Public Theater production of "As You Like It" in New York. Her film debut will likely see her starring opposite Ashton Kutcher and Joaquin Phoenix, who were also in talks to join the cast of the Disney project. Set in 1897, "Woods" revolves around a close-knit community that lives with the frightening knowledge that a mythical race of creatures resides in the woods around them. Howard's only other acting credits include such stage productions as "Tartuffe" and "House/Garden." The Associated Press & Reuters contributed to this report.
