(PEOPLE) -- Never mind the brilliant rocks that they've worn when dazzling's on the agenda: Right now some style-setters are saying something more personal with pretty heart-shaped pendants.
Whether it's in chunky sterling silver (Gwen Stefani) or delicate diamonds (Sheryl Crow and Serena Williams), the heart-shaped necklace "makes a great statement," says Carol Brodie, a spokeswoman for jeweler Harry Winston. "If it's given to you by someone you love, you get to wear their heart close to yours. And if you buy it, it means you love yourself -- and isn't that what we all strive for?"
Best of all, love is eternal, according to Robin Renzi and Michele Quan, the design team behind Me & Ro: "Hearts never really go out of style. They're classic."
Depending on the outfit, heart-shaped pendants can play it sweet or sultry.
Paired with a strappy dress (Tara Reid), they look flirty; with a faux fur like J. Lo's, they whisper, "I'm high-maintenance."
Message aside, one thing's for certain: Following your heart has never been more in fashion.
