LONDON, England -- U.S. pop queen Madonna has complained to the British press watchdog over a media claim she is expecting her third child.

Celebrity magazine Heat claimed the 44-year-old singer was pregnant and had visited a birth specialist in London at the end of last year.

But on Wednesday it was revealed that Madonna has contacted the UK's Press Complaints Commission saying the story was "inaccurate."

"We received the complaint today which states that the article in Heat magazine alleging she is pregnant is inaccurate," a PCC spokeswoman told the Press Association.

The magazine claimed Madonna's pregnancy was the reason for her recent move from wintry London to the warmer climate of Los Angeles with husband Guy Ritchie.

Madonna has a six-year-old daughter, Lourdes, and a two-year-old son Rocco.

The PCC said it would contact the magazine in an attempt to settle the matter.

If no agreement is reached, the commission could rule that the magazine had breached Britain's press conduct code, although it has no power to fine offenders.

Heat has declined to comment.

In an interview with CNN's Larry King, in 1999, Madonna, who has seven brothers and sisters, was asked if she wanted a big family.

She replied: "Yes, I do. Do I want to have eight children? No."
