(CNN) -- From Winona Ryder to Nate Dogg and Roger Clinton, attorney Mark Geragos is used to representing famous clients -- some more famous than others.

Now Geragos is representing one of the world's most recognized people: pop singer Michael Jackson.

Jackson, 45, faces multiple counts of child molestation. He surrendered Thursday to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department in California where he was booked and released after posting a $3 million bond. (Full story)

If the case against Jackson proceeds to trial, Geragos would be a central figure in what would be the biggest celebrity-related case since football player-turned-actor O.J. Simpson faced murder charges in the 1994 stabbing of his wife and her male friend.

A jury did not find Simpson guilty, but a jury in a subsequent civil trial did.

Geragos is representing Scott Peterson against murder charges in Modesto, California, and how he will juggle two high-profile cases will undoubtedly be the focus of attention in the months ahead.

A preliminary hearing in the Peterson case already has been delayed because of another Geragos client, a gang member on trail for murder in Los Angeles, California.

Jeffrey Toobin, a CNN legal analyst, said it is unusual that one attorney would work two high-profile cases at once.

But the slow wheel of justice will work in Geragos' favor, he said.

"The California legal system works so slowly that both cases will grind on at a pace that will probably allow him to handle both of them," Toobin said.

If people know Geragos, it's likely because of his appearance on such shows as CNN's "Larry King Live" and on NBC and other networks.

Defense attorney Mickey Sherman said clients are attracted to Geragos, in part for his media savvy.

Geragos is managing partner of Geragos and Geragos, a 12-person Los Angeles firm.

He first came to national attention for representing Susan McDougal, a former business partner of President Bill Clinton.

He also won dismissal of felony kidnapping, arson and criminal threats charges against hip-hop star Nathaniel Hale, whose stage name is Nate Dogg.

He also won dismissal of all alcohol-related counts against Clinton's brother, Roger.

In December 2002, Geragos defended Ryder on charges of stealing more than $5,500 worth of merchandise from a Beverly Hills, California, store in 2001.

She was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to undergo psychological and drug counseling.
