(CNN) -- More than 1 million Americans had laser eye surgery last year. Most are happy with the results, but for some it did more damage than good.
When looking for a clinic to have the surgery, choose one with good preoperative screening. People with severe nearsightedness or extreme astigmatism should be ruled out. Post-operative care is imperative as well.
Surgery costs between $1,500 and $2,500 per eye.
