TOKYO, Japan (Reuters) -- Japanese stocks opened higher on Friday, with the Dow's close over 10,000 and a strong reading from a key corporate survey spurring buying of Sony Corp.
The Bank of Japan said before the start of trade that the key diffusion index for large manufacturers in its quarterly "tankan" business sentiment survey improved to plus 11 in December from plus 1 in September.
It was the highest since June 1997. The median forecast in a Reuters poll of 12 economists was plus 6.
The survey helped send the Nikkei average up 1.52 percent to 10,228.22 by 0011 GMT, tacking onto a 1.66 percent rise on Thursday. The broader TOPIX index gained 1.34 percent to 1,004.25 in early Friday trade.
Consumer electronics giant Sony put on 2.56 percent to 3,610 yen.
