TEPCO lifts nuclear shutdown cost
TOKYO, Japan (Reuters) -- Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) has increased the estimated cost of a shutdown of its nuclear reactors to 290 billion yen ($2.66 billion) for the financial year to next March.
The new figure, released Tuesday, compares with a forecast it made in August of 240 billion yen.
TEPCO is Japan's largest power company. After admitting late last year that it had falsified data on maintenance checks, it was forced to close its nuclear reactors and use large quantities of oil and gas to run thermal generators.
TEPCO also said it forecast its nuclear power utilization rate for this financial year to be around 35 percent, down from its August estimate of 45 percent.
