NEW YORK (CNN) -- The publisher of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's book has recouped the $8 million it paid for the former first lady's memoir and other costs associated with it, a spokesman for Simon & Schuster said Monday.
That news comes just a week after Clinton's "Living History" was released.
It has sold about 600,000 copies in its first week of sales, according to Adam Rothberg, a Simon & Schuster spokesman. He said the publisher has recouped the cost of the book deal, plus printing and marketing costs.
Rothberg called the rate of sales "fantastic" and said it is a record rate for a non-fiction book.
The book, with a list price of $28, has received mixed reviews,. Still, it has generated enormous publicity as the freshman Democrat revisits some controversial and personal moments in President Clinton's administration. Among them: her husband's affair with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky, the Whitewater investigation and her failed effort at revamping the nation's health-care system.
While the book has fueled speculation that Clinton, 55, will seek the White House in 2008, she says she has no intention of doing so.
In a recent interview with CNN's Larry King, Clinton acknowledged that she is a polarizing figure in politics.
"I think there may be some reasons why people don't [like me] that are certainly legitimate, and that's their perfect right to make their own conclusions, but I really do think a lot of it had to do with Bill's agenda," she said.
Clinton has launched an extensive book tour across the country to promote her memoir.
