SANTA FE, New Mexico (CNN) -- President Bush plans to visit victims of the recent string of killer tornadoes in the nation's Midwest and South this week.
More than 380 tornadoes -- a record number -- have been reported in the first 11 days of May, according to the National Weather Service.
The president said Sunday that he would visit tornado-ravaged areas in Missouri beginning Tuesday afternoon.
"It'll give me a chance to tell some of the people who suffered how the nation prays for 'em and how we're concerned about them," he said.
The president spent a quiet weekend in Santa Fe visiting longtime friends. He plans to promote his jobs and growth program Monday with stops in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Omaha, Nebraska, before heading to Indianapolis, Indiana, for a speech Tuesday.
Bush had planned to end his trip there and return to Washington, but decided Sunday to add a tour of the tornado-ravaged areas to his trip.
