Ronaldo on target, but Vieri injured
ROME, Italy -- Ronaldo gave a strong message that his injury problems are behind him with a crucial goal for Inter Milan as Italy's title chase reached boiling point.
The Brazilian scored in a 3-1 win over Piacenza on Sunday which enabled Inter to maintain a one-point lead over Juventus going into the final match next week.
Ronaldo, who led the line with Italian striker Christian Vieri, sealed the points with a late free-kick.
But Vieri suffered an ankle injury and could miss next Sunday's final game at his old club Lazio.
It is another setback for the striker who was forced to miss Italy's last two games -- freindlies against England and Uruguay -- through injury.
Juventus beat Brescia 5-0, with French striker David Trezeguet getting a hat-trick and Italian striker Alessandro Del Piero adding the other two. Trezeguet earlier denied Italian press reports that he was leaving Juve.
But it was an unhappy afternoon for another Italian hopeful, Roberto Baggio. The 35-year-old striker scored twice last week on his return from injury, prompting calls to include him in the national squad for a fourth World Cup.
On Sunday Baggio came on as a 66th minute substitute for Brescia but failed to make an impression.
