Israeli military: Palestinian gunman kills 4
HEBRON, West Bank (CNN) -- A Palestinian gunman infiltrated the Jewish settlement of Otniel near Hebron in the West Bank on Friday, opening fire in a dining hall, Israeli military sources said, and killing at least four people.
Ramadan Shalah, the head of Islamic Jihad in Beirut, claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was carried out to avenge the killing of an Islamic Jihad leader Thursday in Qabatya, near Hebron.
At least 10 other people were wounded before Israeli security forces shot and killed the gunman.
Sources said troops were looking for other possible gunmen.
Islamic Jihad is a militant group dedicated to the creation of an Islamic Palestinian state and the destruction of Israel.
