Israeli policeman killed in suicide bombingFirst such attack in six weeks
JERUSALEM (CNN) -- An Israeli policeman was killed and two other Israelis were wounded Wednesday when a suicide bomber blew himself up at a bus stop near the town of Umm el-Fahm, Israeli ambulance services said. One Israeli suffered moderate wounds and the other was lightly wounded, sources said. Police said the policeman spotted the bomber, thought he was suspicious and approached in his police car. When the car drew near, police said, the bomber set off his explosives. The body of the bomber could be seen lying beneath a plastic covering at the site of the explosion. Umm el-Fahm is located in northern Israel, west of the West Bank town of Jenin. It was the first such attack in more than six weeks. The last occurred August 4. Earlier, Palestinian gunmen opened fire at an Israeli vehicle north of the settlement of Mevo Dotan, near Jenin in the northern West Bank, killing one Israeli and wounding another lightly, an Israeli army spokesman said. In addition, Israeli police said the charred body of an Israeli man was discovered in a garbage dump in a Palestinian village outside Jerusalem. Police said the victim was a 67-year-old resident of the Jewish settlement of Ma'aleh Adumim. He had been shot, police said.
