Baby son for 'delighted' Beckhams
LONDON, England -- "Posh Spice" Victoria Beckham has given birth to her second child -- a boy named Romeo.
Victoria's husband, soccer star David Beckham, told reporters: "We are both delighted. He is the most beautiful thing in the world."
Standing outside the private Portland Hospital in London, Beckham said their three-year-old son Brooklyn was present at the hospital to see his 7lbs, 4 ounce (3.2 kg) brother.
The soccer star said Brooklyn had been allowed into the operating theatre just after the birth, believed to be a second Caesarean section.
The England and Manchester United player said: "Brooklyn came in when Romeo came out... he absolutely adores him. He looks like Brooklyn. He's gorgeous.
"He's got Brooklyn's nose and Victoria's chin. Brooklyn's just in awe of him."
The singer and the soccer star are one of Britain's most famous couples, and bookmakers had been taking bets on the name of the new baby.
Brooklyn reportedly was named after the New York borough where he was conceived, spawning speculation that his sibling might be named Paris, after the French capital, or Trafford, the home of Manchester United's stadium.
David Beckham said the name Romeo had no special significance.
"It's just a name we love," he said when asked why they had chosen the name of one of William Shakespeare's best-known lovers.
Victoria shot to superstardom in the 1990s as part of the "Spice Girls" band which sold about 40 million albums and 25 million singles worldwide and had nine number one singles in Britain alone.
This year, she has been seeking to salvage her flagging solo career with a new single, "A Mind of its Own" Reuters reported.
Meanwhile David, famed for his footballing skills at top English club Manchester United and as England captain, has said he is in talks with British high-street retailer Marks and Spencer to help design a range of boys' clothing.
Both are seen as doting parents. David has a large guardian angel tattooed on his back over Brooklyn's name.
The new arrival can expect plenty of treats from the mega-earning couple.
They spent a reported $78,000 on a child-size Ferrari for Brooklyn for his first Christmas.
