Bus collision kills 16 in Argentina

SALTA, Argentina (CNN) -- A bus traveling on a slick road in northern Argentina slammed into a truck carrying sugar overnight Saturday, killing 16 people, including a baby, and injuring 13 others.

The accident took place at 11 p.m. (1 a.m. Sunday EST) on a drizzly Saturday on Highway 34 about 40 miles from Salta, an Argentine government news release said.

By midday Sunday, eight bodies had been identified, authorities said. The accident site was in front of a cemetery.

The bus was headed north to the province of Jujuy when it hit the southbound truck. Authorities were investigating the cause of the crash.
