MOUNT EPHRAIM, New Jersey (CNN) -- A car smashed through the front of a McDonald's restaurant in southern New Jersey early Wednesday, killing three female employees.

A spokesman for the Camden County prosecutor's office told CNN that a late-model Cadillac sped through an intersection in Mount Ephraim, New Jersey, at 4:20 a.m. Wednesday and jumped the curb, crashing into the McDonald's.

The car "appears to have become airborne," ramming through the children's play area, the seating area, and finally stopping in the restaurant's kitchen, said Greg Reinert, spokesman for the Camden County prosecutor's office.

The three employees were identified as Cindy Molina, 35; Joann Dowen, 52; and Nancy King, 49.

The driver -- Frank Nastasi, 52, of Haddon Heights, New Jersey -- was being treated at a hospital for injuries, which Reinert said did not appear to be life-threatening.

Investigators "have not made any conclusions" as to the cause of the accident, Reinert said.

No customers were there, but six employees were in the 24-hour McDonald's at the time of the accident, Reinert said. The three employees who survived had minor injuries.

Mount Ephraim is about 10 miles east of Philadelphia, across the Delaware River.

"We are deeply saddened by this morning's news that some very special people have been tragically taken from us," said a statement from David Murphy, vice president and general manager of the McDonald's Philadelphia region. "There are no words that can convey the pain we feel about this morning's loss of life."
