4 hurt in Indiana train collision

LAPORTE, Indiana (CNN) -- Four people were injured and about 10 cars derailed early Sunday when trains owned by Norfolk Southern collided, LaPorte police said.

The collision -- which took place in LaPorte, a northwestern Indiana town located between Gary and South Bend -- involved eastbound and westbound trains.

One of the four, all railroad employees, was in serious condition at LaPorte Hospital and the others were treated and released, police said.

The manifests of both trains indicated that no hazardous materials were being transported by either train.

One engine from the eastbound train was lifted off the tracks by the collision.
