EPIC unveils Web services planBy Heather Harreld (IDG) -- EPIC Global Technology on Tuesday unveiled support for Web services for the consumer packaged goods industry that leverages the e-commerce standards of the Uniform Code Council. EPIC's Global Pavilion for trading partners in the packaged food industry is designed to allow manufacturers to use an Internet browser to collaborate with any retailer the subscribes to UCCnet, a subsidiary of UCC that provides item registry and data synchronization based on industry-developed standards.
The service will eliminate the need for double entry bookkeeping and expensive hardware and software collaboration software, said Greg Weismantel, president and CEO of St Charles, Illinois-based EPIC. "What we are providing is a Web services-based product line for both the manufacturers and the retailers," he said. "We provide a closed loop solution for both retailer and manufacturer that allows a high ROI because both can immediately eliminate the clerical errors from forms ... when presenting new items and promotions." The first phase of EPIC's Global Pavilion is designed to allow manufacturers to publish items, prices, and promotions either directly or through the Internet. Global Pavilion allows brokers to handle standard transactions, deals, and promotions and the retailer to optimize inventory management, turnovers, and profitability. Beta tests for the Global Pavilion will begin in June via a hosted environment; in the future it will be expanded to include food service, convenience stores, and other industries. |
