Spears' papa packs pistol(CNN) -- Britney Spears' father pulled a gun out while four teenage girls drove onto his property on July 14, the Times-Picayune newspaper reports. "I certainly didn't expect Britney Spears' father to pull a gun on us," one fan named Erica said.
When Times-Picayune reporter Chris Rose later asked Jamie Spears about the incident he replied, "They were in my driveway." He continued, "I carry a gun with me. I keep it right here," and gestured toward his carport. "And I'd have pulled one on you, too, if I didn't have company. If I'm alone and you come in my driveway, come on my property, that's what I'm going to do." Spears argued that death threats and thousands of fans stopping by the house are what justify his action. "He was really angry," another teenage fan Beth said. "He was really scary." "I had never seen a gun pulled in anger before," said Erica. "And I never thought that if it happened to me it would be Britney Spears' dad." McCartney's wife was homelessLONDON, England (Reuters) -- Heather Mills, new wife of ex-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney, has described how someone urinated on her head during a period of homelessness while she was living rough on the streets of London. It was the turning point for the former model who ran away from home at the age of 13. "There was this stench and I realized my hair was soaked -- a tramp was urinating on my head," she told Prima Magazine.
"That was the turning point when I said to myself 'You've been here nearly four months, its time to get out.' I went and had a shower in Victoria Station for 10p, like I always did, smartened myself up and got a job in a croissant shop." In the September issue of the magazine, Mills talks about her relationship with McCartney, whom she married in a lavish ceremony in Ireland in June. "Paul has taught me to slow down, he won't allow me to tear out of the house at 7 a.m. as I used to, as he says it is our time when we should enjoy the moment together." Despite an age difference of 26 years -- Mills is 34, McCartney 60 -- she describes him as: "Definitely the youngest guy I have ever been out with." "He's so sweet, energizing -- a kind of Peter Pan character. When you see him walking down the street, he literally skips, just like a little boy," she says. Minogue tours in homelandSYDNEY, Australia (AP) -- Draped in an Australian flag, pop star Kylie Minogue said Friday it was good to be home as she launched a sellout 12-date tour of her country of birth. Although she now spends most of her time in London, the former star of the soap opera "Neighbours," has legions of Australian fans and they turned out in force to her opening concert at Sydney Entertainment Center.
Opening the show in a silver space suit, Minogue went through a series of costume changes including covering herself in the national flag. Minogue told the 10,000-strong crowd she was relieved to be in Australia after a grueling world schedule. "There's a lot that I can say in words, it's just easier that I didn't," she said. "I'm one very happy girl to be home." Fans roared their appreciation. Craig Schotel, 35, from Crows Nest said it was the fourth Minogue concert he had been to. "She's a babe," he said. "She can sing without music and sound fantastic. She's like a wine, she gets better with age, which gives us all hope." Denzel directs 'Fisher Story'TORONTO, Canada (AP) -- Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington will bring "The Antwone Fisher Story," his directorial debut, to this year's Toronto International Film Festival. Festival organizers said Thursday it will have a gala presentation.
The film is the story of a hot-tempered sailor (newcomer Derek Luke), whose visit to a naval psychiatrist (Washington) starts him on the road to emotional healing. It will be released in selected U.S. cities in late December. Washington attended last year's festival to promote "Training Day," the crime drama for which he won the best-actor Oscar this year. The 27th Toronto International Film Festival will be held September 5-14. The Associated Press & Reuters contributed to this report. |
