LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Police on Monday arrested and booked rap music mogul Marion "Suge" Knight on a parole violation.

The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department confirmed that Knight -- the founder of Death Row Records -- is in custody and is being held at the L.A. County Jail for violating the terms of his release on an assault conviction.

As recently as November 14, sheriff's investigators raided Knight's Beverly Hills home and offices in connection with a pair of unsolved homicides.

At that time, authorities arrested three people who were termed "associates" of Knight but have said Knight is not a suspect in the killings.

Knight is no stranger to the law, having served several years for a parole violation before being released from a California prison in August 2001. He has previous convictions on assault and federal weapon charges.

Death Row was the label that represented rapper Tupac Shakur before he was shot to death in 1996.

Deputies said the warrants served in November were not related to Shakur's death or the 1997 slaying of rapper Notorious B.I.G. (Christopher Wallace).

Shakur was gunned down while riding with Knight in Las Vegas in September 1996, following a championship boxing match between Mike Tyson and Bruce Seldon at the MGM Grand Hotel. The case remains unsolved.
