CNNfyi.com's next Learning Adventure will explore one of nature's greatest forces with Storm! Extreme Weather, an interactive online program for students and teachers. On Friday, March 23, CNNfyi.com will host a webcast exploring destructive weather forces and changing global climate patterns, how technology is used to predict weather and ways the U.S. military uses the science of meteorology. Storm! will also include online lesson plans, background feature stories and other interactive tools.

Students and teachers can contribute to the content by submitting questions to be answered in the webcast session of their choice. Students may submit questions via e-mail to learningadventure@cnn.com, and should use the session topic, chosen from the list below, as the subject line. Students are also asked to include their first name, school name and state.

The Learning Adventure schedule is as follows:

  • 12-12:50 p.m.: Military Meteorology - Major Steve Romolo of Fort McPherson, GA, explains how the armed forces use changes in the weather to enhance strategy or avoid complications in military operations.
  • 1-1:50 p.m.: Global Warming - CNN Environmental Correspondent Natalie Pawelski and CNN International Weather Anchor Jenny Harrison discuss how greenhouse-effect gases contribute to global warming, as well as potential social and economic implications of this climatic trend.
  • 2-2:50 p.m.: Destructive Forces - CNN meteorologist Chad Myers offers an in-depth look at the formation, tracking and effects of hurricanes and tornadoes.
  • 3-3:50 p.m.: Weather Technology and Careers - CNN meteorologist Orelon Sidney looks at the gadgets and gizmos that collect weather data and the people who use them to generate forecasts across the United States.

CNNfyi.com web special Storm! will include educational materials, including an interactive hurricane tracking simulator and global warming lab provided by CNNfyi.com educational partner Riverdeep Interactive Learning. More educational components will be contributed by our other educational partners, HighWired.com and Harcourt.

On Thursday, March 22, CNN NEWSROOM is offering a complementary Storm! special with a look at extreme weather patterns, various types of weather systems and a day in the life of a television meteorologist. CNN NEWSROOM also is accompanied by a free daily classroom guide available on CNNfyi.com.

Remember to send your emails this week, and look for the special to begin on the site soon.
