Incidents reported on West Bank, Gaza

JERUSALEM (CNN) -- Israeli forces shelled a Palestinian police station south of the West Bank town of Tulkarem on Thursday in response to the shooting of an Israeli soldier, Israeli military sources said.

The sources said a sniper had earlier shot and killed an Israeli soldier in the Tulkarem area.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society said two Palestinians were lightly wounded in the shelling.

In addition, the Israeli army said its tanks entered Palestinian-controlled territory in Gaza after its troops at the Netzarim Junction were fired upon.

The army said shots were fired. No injuries were reported.

The three tanks entered an area near the Bakasha neighborhood between Netzarim and Gaza.
