Ex-Bosnian Serb President flies to The Hague

BELGRADE, Yugoslavia -- Biljana Plavsic, the former Bosnian Serb president, has flown to the War Crimes Tribunal at the Hague, the deputy chairman of her party said.

It was unclear if she had gone to offer testimony or if there had been any action on an war crimes indictment against her.

The War Crimes Tribunal refused all comment. But U.S. State Department officials confirmed that Plavsic was at the Hague.

In the past, sources have indicated to CNN that Plavsic may have been the target of a secret war crimes indictment.

No public indictment has been handed down.

Plavsic, 70, gained international attention in 1997 when she broke ranks with Bosnian Serb hardliners and accused many of them of corruption.

Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic and Bosnian Serb commander Ratko Mladic, both indicted on war crimes charges, remain at large.

Reuters contributed to this report.
