Dominican Republic awaits info on N.Y. crash
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (CNN) -- About 200 family members of passengers on American Airlines Flight 587 were waiting at the Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo, said Dominican customs official Evelyn Aredondo.
She said they have not received any information from American Airlines about the crash in New York.
"People are watching TV, waiting to hear something," she said. "They are very upset."
Aredondo said the airport is on heightened alert.
