Suspect killed, four hurt in Indiana chase and shootout
TERRE HAUTE, Indiana (CNN) -- Two suspected burglars shot a homeowner and led police on a wild chase through western Indiana that ended in a shootout late Friday night. One suspect was killed, and four people were injured.
Indiana State Police troopers told CNN the incident began in the rural community of Gosport, about 50 miles southwest of Indianapolis when the suspects allegedly broke into a home, wounded the resident, and stole his vehicle.
The suspects sped away when they were spotted by officers. Troopers say the suspects fired shots out the window throughout the pursuit.
The chase ran through several counties before officers used "stop sticks" to end the chase seven miles east of Terre Haute.
Troopers say a shootout then ensued, with both suspects shot. One man died, the second was wounded and taken to an area hospital.
Two police officers were also injured, but police say neither was hit by gunfire. One was hurt in an accident ; the other was hit by glass and flying debris. The homeowner's injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
