People mover catches fire in Baltimore

BALTIMORE, Maryland (CNN) -- A people mover, sent to take passengers from an American Airlines plane experiencing tire problems at Baltimore-Washington International Airport, caught fire Monday evening.

The small fire in the engine of the "plane mate" vehicle was discovered before any passengers got on board and was quickly extinguished. No one was injured.

American Airlines Flight 310, en route from Dallas to Baltimore, reported a tire separation problem after departure. The plane landed safely at 6:25 p.m., and the people mover was sent to retrieve the 120 passengers on board so repairs could be made to the plane.

After the fire was extinguished, passengers were moved to the terminal without incident, according to John White, the airport's communications director.
