Suzanne Somers reveals she has breast cancer
LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Actress and Ab Roller pitchwoman Suzanne Somers revealed Wednesday in an exclusive interview with CNN's Larry King that she is battling breast cancer.
"In the last year, I've been battling and surviving breast cancer," said Somers.
She said she decided to make the announcement after tabloid newspapers ran stories saying she had liposuction and showed pictures of her leaving a known liposuction clinic.
Somers, 54, said she did go to a liposuction clinic to have some cosmetic work done on one of her breasts, after part of it was removed because of the cancer.
She refused to answer questions concerning liposuction treatment on other parts of her body, saying she didn't feel comfortable talking about it.
"It was just to even things out," she said. "I have a nice body. I felt disfigured ... It just feels like I don't have to tell."
The actress said she has undergone radiation treatment for the cancer, but she rejected chemotherapy.
"I decided to find some alternative things to do," she told King.
She said she uses a homeopathic drug called Iscador, which she said was recently approved for use in the United States.
The actress was visibly subdued and upset as she spoke about her condition, which she said she hadn't wanted to reveal yet.
"Maybe my higher power is pushing me to come out before I'm ready to come out about it," she said.
Somers cried as she recounted how she asked the tabloids not to print the stories that said she had liposuction on her thighs. Somers does infomercials for the ThighMaster.
