NEW YORK -- Anne Heche drops a bombshell on Wednesday night's edition of ABC's "20/20."

According to The Associated Press, the actress tells Barbara Walters her father sexually abused her as a child, which caused her years of mental illness. Heche also says she feared she would die of AIDS, the disease that killed her father, in 1983.

The troubles led Heche, now 32, to create her own fantasy world, she says.

"I had a fantasy world that I escaped to. I called my other personality Celestia," Heche says. "I called the other world that I created for myself 'The Fourth Dimension.' I believed I was from that world. I believed I was from another planet. I think I was insane."

The revelations come at the same time that Heche is releasing her autobiography, "Call Me Crazy" (Scribner).

These revelations also follow several recent twists in her life. First, she became a favorite of tabloid headlines when she started dating comic actress Ellen DeGeneres in 1997. Then, as the couple announced they were splitting in August of 2000, Heche was hospitalized after showing up, shaken and confused, at the doorstep of a rural California home.

In her interview with Walters, Heche tells of the time she met DeGeneres.

"I saw the most ravishing woman I had ever seen in my life standing across the room. Her name was Ellen DeGeneres. She was radiating," Heche says, according to the AP. "I think at certain times in people's lives, you just radiate an energy and a glow of fabulousness. And that was her! I had never seen anybody so lit up. And when we started talking, and I asked her for her number ... she said ... 'What are you doing? There's a reporter right here. Do you have any idea ... who I am?' "

Heche tells Walters that she and DeGeneres are no longer friends.

This past weekend, Heche married Coleman Laffoon, a cameraman she met while working on a documentary about DeGeneres' return to stand-up comedy.

Heche has starred in movies like "Psycho" (1998), "Six Days Seven Nights" (1998), and "Wag the Dog" (1997).
