'Baywatch' concludes 'great run' this MayHONOLULU, Hawaii -- Hawaii's not a bad place to get a pink slip. "Baywatch Hawaii" has been canceled after a two-year run on the Pacific island state. The last episode will air the week of May 21. "It's been a great run," show publicist Kristin McEntee said Wednesday. "It lasted longer than we thought. It's sad." The show spent nine years in Los Angeles, California, building an international audience on plotlines almost as thin as the string bikinis worn by the female lifeguards on the show. It also made David Hasselhoff, its long-time star, into an international celebrity. But when the show moved to Hawaii, Hasselhoff only made occasional appearances, and ratings have plummeted. Brian Williams: 'Let them bury the poor woman'NEW YORK -- Lesson of the day: Make sure the microphone is off before you say something you might regret. NBC News anchor Brian Williams, or at least the person in charge of turning off his microphone, has learned that lesson the hard way. Williams, filling on for Tom Brokaw on the Wednesday evening newscast, was heard making a controversial remark regarding actress Dale Evans, who died Wednesday at 88. Near the end of the newscast, following a segment on Evans, NBC cut to a Total cereal commercial, but Williams' voice could clearly be heard making a reference to Trigger, the horse ridden by Evans' husband, Roy Rogers. "Let them bury the poor woman," Williams said. "They're making Trigger jokes out here." Williams was apparently referring to a stagehand who made a joke about Trigger. The gaffe was "an unfortunate technical error," and was edited out of the taped broadcast in Washington, D.C. and the West Coast, an NBC spokeswoman. Cruise-Kidman publicist: It wasn't the ScientologyNEW YORK -- Don't blame Scientology for the break-up of Hollywood couple Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. Religion was not a factor in the split, a publicist for the actors said. Cruise, 38, is a a devout Scientologist. Kidman, 33, was raised Catholic. "Scientology had nothing to do with this," Pat Kingsley said in the February 19 issue of People magazine. "They are not being controlled. They are not being counseled." Cruise filed for divorce Wednesday, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple blamed "difficulties inherent in divergent careers" for keeping them constantly apart. While building their Hollywood careers, Cruise and Kidman starred in three movies together -- "Days of Thunder" (1990), "Far and Away" (1992), and "Eyes Wide Shut" (1999). Boris Becker promises not to be a deadbeat dadMUNICH, Germany -- Retired tennis star Boris Becker has admitted that he is the father of a 10-month-old girl born to Angela Ermakova, a Russian model living in London. "I acknowledge the fatherhood. I take responsibility and will provide for little Anna," Becker, 33, said in a statement issued by his spokesman in Munich. "Whatever I can contribute so that Anna will have a future as a happy girl, I will do." Becker, who had a paternity test, divorced his wife, Barbara, in January. Late last month Becker confirmed his relationship with German pop star Sabrina Setlur. Becker's brilliant tennis career included three championships at Wimbledon. |
