It's splitsville for Puffy and J.Lo
(CNN) -- So much for Valentine's Day.
Superstar couple Sean "Puffy" Combs and Jennifer "J.Lo" Lopez are a couple no more. According to Combs' spokeswoman, the pair have broken up.
The split follows months of rumors and gossip over the state of the Combs-Lopez affair.
"Mr. Combs confirmed that he and his love Jennifer Lopez have in fact broken up. Mr. Combs is confirming this today as he wanted to put all the rumors surrounding their relationship to rest. At this difficult time we ask that you respect his privacy," Combs' spokeswoman Nathalie Moar said Wednesday, when the rest of the romantic world celebrated Valentine's Day.
Lopez's spokesman Alan Nierob said he could not confirm or deny that the romance was over, only that he had also read the Combs statement.
"Puffy Combs put out a statement confirming the demise of their relationship. I don't know anything about it. It's been read to me."
It caps a busy week-and-a-half for celebrity splits. Last week, gossipmongers were in a tizzy over the separation of celebrity couple Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.
Unlike Cruise and Kidman, Combs and Lopez were not married. But their fast-track careers -- Combs, the rap star/fashion designer; Lopez, the actress turned pop singer -- thrust their relationship into the spotlight.
It received its share of scrutiny, particularly when Combs was arrested in December 1999 following a New York nightclub shooting. Lopez was with him at the time.
Combs is currently on trial on charges stemming from that incident -- illegal gun possession and bribery. He faces 15 years in prison if convicted of the gun charge.
Lopez, meantime, has been promoting her new top-selling album, "J.Lo," and her new movie "The Wedding Planner," which debuted at the top of the box office before being unseated by "Hannibal."
