Cheney to King: Bush is captain

On the eve of the George W. Bush's inauguration, his vice president, Dick Cheney, brushed aside a question on whether he will serve as the administration's "shadow president."

"That's just silly," Cheney told Larry King. Bush, he said, "doesn't worry about that. He makes the key decisions ... I'm a part of a team and he's the captain."

Cheney told King he will spend a lot of time on Capitol Hill working with the Congress but he doesn't know how many times he'll be called upon as president of the Senate to cast a tie-breaking vote in the evenly split Senate.

"I'm getting mixed signals on that," he said.

Cheney's wife, Lynne, told King she will continue to serve on boards of private corporations while her husband is in office and predicted it will not turn into an issue:

"When the president and vice president are women, will their husbands work?" she asked. "Of course they will."
