CNNfyi.com allows you to take today's news and make it tomorrow's textbook. We understand that your class time is limited. With this in mind, we have developed lesson plans and discussion questions/activities (abbreviated lesson plans) based on top news and trends of the day. Standards requirements, pertinent subject areas, and useful Internet resources are already provided so you don't have to do the research. Accomodations, including world languages activities, and Challenges offer additional class activities. Most lessons are supplemented with materials from our respected educational partners, Harcourt, Riverdeep.net, and HighWired.com. News stories are written with a student audience in mind. Lesson plans will be archived by subject areas and dates on our Subject Areas page. Additionally, you can use the CNNfyi.com Search engine to look for stories and lessons on topics you are teaching.
While learning through the news is our top priority, we have many other time-saving resources, as well as CNN-quality offerings for students. Our Teaching Tools include backgrounders and profiles, giving you instant access to information on current places, topics, and people in the news; important planning calendars, including CNN NEWSROOM schedules, national education conferences, TBS/CNN programming, and upcoming national events; and experts in numerous education-related fields to give their perspectives in interviews. Our CNN NEWSROOM page will tell you more about our broadcast partner and how to taek advantage of its resources.
Additionally, you can direct your students to pages just for them on CNNfyi: School Tools to aid in their homework; Student Bureau, news written by and for students; and the Game Room for relaxing.
