| British Airways grounds ConcordeLONDON (CNN) -- All British Airways Concordes have been grounded after British and French officials advised the airline they intended to revoke the supersonic plane's airworthiness certification, the airline said. The morning flight from London to New York was cancelled, as well as the later return flight from New York, the airline said. BA suspended Concorde flights for one day following the crash of an Air France Concorde on July 25 which killed 113 people. Air France has not conducted any Concorde flights since the accident. BA said that it had been told on Tuesday morning that the UK's Air Accident Investigation Branch and French authorities had agreed that they intended to suspend certification of the plane.
"As soon as we heard this, we immediately withdrew our supersonic fleet from service," the airline said. The company did not elaborate on the reasons for the decision by regulators. BA was operating only one Concorde flight each way between London and New York during August, citing a normal summer reduction in demand for premium air travel. Though French authorities suspended Air France Concorde operations following the crash, BA insisted that it believed there was no fundamental safety flaw in the aircraft.
