| Panama government to upgrade border police after attackPANAMA CITY, Panama (AP) -- The government has allocated an additional $3 million to improve the weaponry of police in the border region where armed Colombians staged a weekend raid on an Indian town, One child was killed and 12 people, including three police, were injured in the raid Sunday against the community of Nazareth in the Darien region. Police suspect that Colombian rebels or paramilitary groups were involved in the raid. Government Minister Rodolfo Aguilera informed congress of the allocation on Tuesday. He said his country will not become involved in the Colombian conflicts, but would respond to attacks on its territory. Panama has no formal military force. Copyright 2000 The Associated Press.
