WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A California high school teacher who has taught English for 35 years is the new National Teacher of the Year, the White House has announced.
Dr. Marilyn Jachetti Whirry will be given the award during a White House ceremony on Thursday. State Teachers of the Year 2000 and all past National Teachers of the Year also will be honored at the event.
