Car, stolen

Star of 'Girl, Interrupted' enjoys '60 Seconds' role

June 14, 2000
Web posted at: 5:54 p.m. EDT (2154 GMT)

After earning her acting credentials in more dramatic fare, Angelina Jolie found that an action flick took some mental gear shifting.

"It's strange to do something with a lot of action, because you don't feel as necessary as an actor," said Jolie, one of the stars in the car-theft extravaganza "Gone in 60 Seconds." "You have to make things really clear and simple."

But the 25-year-old actress is not complaining about her role as Sara "Sway" Wayland in the adventure film; life could be worse than racing Ferraris and hanging out with actors Nicholas Cage and Giovanni Ribisi, Jolie said.

"It ain't a job," she said.

After all, she asked, what's so dreadful about spinning around in a Ferrari convertible? One scene called for her to do exactly that, and Jolie rose to the challenge.

"They said just go as fast as you can, and spin it out, and ... it was a moment with me and the car," she said. "That was really good."

It's been a really good year for Jolie, who nabbed the best supporting actress Oscar in March for her work in "Girl, Interrupted." Then she married her "Pushing Tin" co-star Billy Bob Thornton.

"The biggest thing is my marriage," she said. "The most important thing in my life - my family, my marriage. That's where my focus is and what makes me happy to get up every day."

Jolie isn't planning on relaxing now that she's finished with "60 Seconds." She's to play Lara Croft, that anatomically dubious heroine in the "Tomb Raider" video game, in a film of the same name.

"We need to work on her, because she's a little extreme," Jolie said. "It's a little hard to jump around in that body."
