The court goes online

Can an IPO be far behind?

The Supreme Court's can now be tracked on the courtıs own web site unveiled this past week. At www.supremecourtus.gov you'll find up-to- date opinions and court orders. There's useful historical information on the court and biographies of the justices.

But it's only a tentative toe in the water of interactive communication. "I'm a computer illiterate," Justice David Souter told a congressional subcommittee last month with some apparent satisfaction as the court's resident Luddite.

The new site has interior and exterior photos of the court's impressive Corinthian architecture. But not a shot of the justices, at least not in its initial unveiling.

The justices remain camera shy. There's no streaming video from the court chambers since no cameras are permitted there.

And court aides say don't expect the justices to join any chat rooms.
